Beach Closure

7/30/2021

The City of Sabula will be temporarily closing the south beach due to levee rehabilitation work.  Closure of the beach will be at the time of the beginning of the work project.  This closure could happen as soon as August 9th.  The beach closure due to rehabilitation work will last approximately one month.  During this time, no individuals should access as it will be an active work site.  Unauthorized individuals accessing the beach may be subject to trespassing fines.  During the work project, the roadway to the Sabula South Campgrounds will remain open.  This project is funded and overseen by the Army Corp of Engineers.

Fire Truck

The City of Sabula is excited to announce that it has been awarded a USDA grant for the purchase of a NEW fire truck.  The awarded amount from the USDA is in the sum of $300,000 ($225,000 grant plus $75,000 match). The City of Sabula is fortunate, appreciative, and thankful to be awarded this grant- it is one of the largest amounts awarded to an Iowa community by the USDA.  With these funds, the Sabula Fire Department will be able to upgrade an aging fleet and continue to provide public safety to the residents of Sabula.

Preventing frozen pipes

2/5/2021

The cold temperatures have arrived.  To avoid frozen water lines this winter with these tips:  Insulate water supply lines in your basement, crawl spaces, and under the kitchen and bathroom cabinets.  Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.  When it's really cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes.  Set your home's temperature no lower than 55 degrees, especially if you're leaving town for the winter.  To help thaw a frozen pipe, keep the tap open and wrap the pipe in an electric heating pad, or gently warm it up with an electric hair dryer or space heater.
