Preventing frozen pipes

2/5/2021

The cold temperatures have arrived.  To avoid frozen water lines this winter with these tips:  Insulate water supply lines in your basement, crawl spaces, and under the kitchen and bathroom cabinets.  Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.  When it's really cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes.  Set your home's temperature no lower than 55 degrees, especially if you're leaving town for the winter.  To help thaw a frozen pipe, keep the tap open and wrap the pipe in an electric heating pad, or gently warm it up with an electric hair dryer or space heater.
